Old Settlers Days

There is a local event here called Old Settlers Days. They hold it over 4 days every year after Father's Day. My kids love it. It's a local event and not too big but good hometown fun. We only live a block from the center of the rides and the local parade comes right by our house each year.

Hannah was in the parade with the Marching band. Jim and Johnson were in the parade with the Cub Scouts. This is the first year in many that I did not have to be in the parade with the kids. It felt a little weird...good and bad. I stayed home and watched the parade. I was able to take pictures of the kids so that was a plus. Some friends came over and watched the parade from our yard so I got to visit with them.

It means corn dog time, too! We go up to get a corn dog most nights of the fair. On Saturday afternoon, we buy wristbands for the kids and they can ride all afternoon. Tiring for us parents but really fun for the kids. LOL!

My friend Lois

I have to work overnight tonight so that gives me some time this morning to get in a visit. I visited with my friend, Lois, after dropping off Hannah at marching band camp. Lois is such a dear. I have known her less than 10 years but I would have loved to have known her all my life. She is really grounded in her faith. That has become so important to me. Lois has battled with cancer 3 times now. She is still going and I mean going...she doesn't miss out on many events with the church or her family or well...anything. She is a real inspiration to me.

I was going to try to nap this afternoon before I pick up Hannah but I guess that is not going to work out. My boss wants to talk to me and I was waiting for him to get off the phone with someone else...now it is time to pick up Hannah from high school. Where did the day go? I did not do any crafting but Lois showed me some great cards she made. She is sewing on her cards now. I love it. They were great cards.

Camps are in full swing 2009

Last week Johnson was at Camp Manitoumi for the week. It rained almost everyday. But he still had a great time. He was in the Mink cabin. His counselor was Justin B. Johnson loves camp. I hope one day he will go back to be a counselor there. He came home with dirty wet clothes and a smile on his face. I thought he would collapse on his bed but he didn't. He was quieter so I know he was tired.

Well this week is the hottest so far this summer with the heat index over 100 degrees. Where is everyone? Well, Jim and Johnson are at Cub Scout day camp every day this week. Hannah is at marching band rookie camp starting today. I keep reminding them to DRINK water.

Jim said they had 2 boys with heat exhaustion yesterday. Hannah said they had 2 girls with heat exhaustion today. Oh boy, not good. DRINK water.

My small 5 gallon fish tank is so full of fish. I mentioned it a few months ago...the fish keep having more babies! I must be up to 25-30 fish in my little tank. I was going to clean the filter today and found my filter has stopped working. I will have to go to WalMart and figure out if it is cheaper to buy the filter system or a new tank. Isn't that sad? It is such a throw away society.

Saturday we had our CTMH club meeting. I miss meeting monthly. We are meeting every other month this year. We made cool DAD wallets. It turned out really neat. Jim liked it.

Pete (my BIL) let us know that Virginia (MIL) was in the hospital for a day out in Des Moines, IA for dizziness. Her blood pressure was up but the doctor also said she had calcium build up in her ears. He showed her some exersizes to do to shake and loosen the calcium. She said, "You mean I have rocks in my head?" LOL! They changed her medicine as well to get her blood pressure in check. I pray God will help to get her meds right.

Don't forget to DRINK water. LOL!
